The GPS Watch is a handy modern-day device purposely built as a golf navigational system which is designed to provide assistance with distances and course mapping, all at the convenience of being worn on a player’s wrist. Our top of the range section offers a lineup of GPS Watches from the majority of GPS leading brands including Garmin and Shot Scope. Each watch, depending on the make and model, comes in different colours such as Black, Blue, Green, Grey, Red and White.
Models
More affordable golf GPS watches provide a simple yet effective approach to focusing on accurate distance calculations, shot tracking and scoring. These more simplistic versions tend to have high-resolution screens with a black and white display. Depending on the make and model, some provide a premium touch screen display while others operate under the push of a select few buttons. These devices tend to provide an easier interface to operate and is therefore a brilliant option for a golfer who isn’t looking to complicate things and wants a straightforward set of yardages.
Some GPS watches higher up the price range provide advanced technical benefits via a coloured touch screen display which includes a full navigation overview around individual holes on thousands of preloaded courses. This is perfect for the keen golf enthusiast who wishes to go into every detail for viewing a full map and scope of the course in order for them to best visualise their real life shot. The more advanced golf GPS watches continue to increase the provision of additional features with some containing smartwatch notifications, health and activity data and auto shot tracking. Depending on the make and model, a select few models from both styles also provide individual club sensors to be placed into each golfer’s club in order for them to link up with their GPS watch and provide accurate data for shots hit with each club.
Golf GPS Watches Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best golf rangefinder watch?
The best golf rangefinder watch entirely depends on what your needs and game confidence are. If you’re a competitive golfer and take your golf game seriously, then an advanced Garmin golf watch will be a very good choice for you. For serious players and semi-professionals, the Garmin Approach S62 and similar models are incredibly popular. Golf watches of this calibre are able to provide detailed in-game metrics such as hazard detection, custom pin location dropping, blind spot mapping, and layout of the green for your approach. As well as these in-game influences, the more advanced golf watches provide shot-specific metrics too such as recording your shots with uphill and downhill considerations and even recommends which club to use depending on your playing history.
For those who have yet to purchase their first golf GPS watch and want to start with a less advanced model, then the Garmin Approach S10 and similar models are a good introduction to this product. As well as calculating accurate yardage for predetermined markers through its automatic course detection, you can keep a digital score of your game.
Are golf GPS watches worth it?
For semi-professional and regular golfers, then golf GPS watches are absolutely worth it. They offer players detail-orientated in-game metrics and post-game analytics to help finetune every aspect of your golf game. By feeding back game data in real time and collating player-centric information, a golf GPS watch will become a valuable part of your golf kit.
They’re also useful lifestyle devices off the course, too. Depending on the model you opt for, you can also track your heart rate day to day, blood oxygen levels, and other health information as well as receiving notifications from your SmartPhone and making contactless payments. This means your GPS golf watch isn’t ‘just’ useful on the course, but also in your day-to-day life. If the added functionality of a health watch is something you’re looking for on top of improving and tracking your golf game, then these more advanced golf watches are definitely worth it. If you’re just looking for some in-game support though, then a less advanced golf GPS watch is still a worthy investment.
Are GPS watches legal in golf?
In 2018, GPS golf devices including golf watches were not permitted to be worn or used by players in any major tournaments. However, this rule has now been somewhat relaxed. The USGA now allows for stand-alone golf devices like a GPS golf watch and multi-functional tablets or smart devices to be used on the golf course during competitions, but under certain criteria.
In the first instance, GPS golf watches are legal in competitions to measure distances to your target, measure and record distances of your shots, and record your swing to review after the round is played. What you can’t do with a golf watch during a competition is measure the calculated distances and inclines of slopes, measure weather conditions, communicate with your coach during the round, record and review videos or photos of your form during a round, measure your swing to review during the round, and use club suggestion features.
Different tournaments may allow for different stipulations here, and some may insist on no golf devices being used. We’d recommend confirming with the organising body of your competition or tournament just what you can use to ensure you remain game-legal.
